Hot-Melt Adhesive

Hot-Melt Adhesive: Process & Selection Guide

2026-08-20

Process Features

Hot-melt adhesives (EVA, POE, SIS/SBS rubber-based) are compounded at 100-180°C. The base materials have high softening points and high tack, requiring precise temperature control to prevent degradation and strong shear for additive dispersion.

  • Narrow temperature window: too hot degrades the base; too cold cannot fully compound
  • Discharge method matters: molten high-viscosity material suits screw extrusion
  • Downstream integration: screw discharge feeds pelletizers or coaters directly

Recommended Models

  • Screw-discharge horizontal kneader: first choice for continuous production
  • Hydraulic tilting model: flexible for small batches and frequent recipe changes

Typical Options

  • Thermal oil heating jacket, uniform temperature throughout
  • Screw discharge system (VFD speed control)
  • Nitrogen protection port (prevents high-temperature oxidation)
  • Enclosed design to minimize odor emission
